Shallipopi Breaks Ties with Dapper Music, Speaks Out Against Exploitation in the Music Industry

Nigerian music sensation Crown Uzama, better known as Shallipopi, has made a bold move by severing ties with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital, citing financial mismanagement, lack of transparency, and what he describes as exploitative contracts. This decision marks a significant turning point in Shallipopi’s career and his ongoing fight for fairness in the music industry.

In a heartfelt message shared with his followers on X (formerly Twitter), Shallipopi opened up about the reasons behind his decision, expressing deep frustration with the way his career and finances were handled by his former management team.

“Today, I am announcing that I am officially ending my agreements with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital,” Shallipopi wrote in a post titled "A Message from Shallipopi: Standing Up for Artists and Creators Everywhere." He continued, “This has been one of the hardest decisions of my life, but it is necessary. My trust was broken, my financial affairs mishandled, and my rights as an artist were disregarded.

According to Shallipopi, the problems began when Dapper Music, his management company, allegedly pressured him into a deal with Dvpper Digital Limited—another company under the same ownership. He claims that the focus of both companies was to prioritize their own profits over his well-being and career growth, ultimately putting his dreams at risk.

One of the key issues raised by the artist is the financial mismanagement related to advances made under his name and music catalog. Shallipopi revealed that Dvpper Digital, as a distributor, provided funds to Dapper Music based on his work, but those funds were allegedly mishandled, leading to significant debts. He wrote, “This debt has now accumulated to a large sum of money that we still cannot fully quantify.”

The lack of transparency regarding his earnings was another major concern. Shallipopi expressed his disappointment with the company’s refusal to provide clear financial records despite his repeated requests. "I've worked tirelessly to build my career, and like every artist, I deserve to know where my earnings are going," he said. "It is devastating and unacceptable for any creator to be kept in the dark about their own financial situation."

Perhaps most shocking of all was the "forever deal" that Shallipopi claimed Dapper Music tried to impose on him. He accused them of attempting to lock him into a contract that would allow them to take 30% of his earnings indefinitely—even after their professional relationship had ended. “They wanted to continue taking a cut of my earnings even after we parted ways,” Shallipopi said. “That’s exploitation, and it’s just wrong.”

For Shallipopi, this decision goes beyond his personal grievances. He views it as part of a larger movement to stand up for all artists and creators who face similar struggles. “This is bigger than just me,” he said. “It’s about fighting for fairness and respect for all artists—those who pour their hearts into their work only to be mistreated by the people who should be supporting them.”

Despite the setbacks, Shallipopi reassured his fans that his creativity would not be stifled. If anything, he said, this experience would only fuel his passion to create more music for his dedicated fanbase. “This will not stop me from making music,” he emphasized. “In fact, it will inspire me to create more and better music for all of you who continue to support me.”

The public fallout between Shallipopi and Dapper Music had been building for some time. In November, fans noticed that the artist had removed Dapper Music's name from his social media bio and unfollowed the label’s CEO, signaling the end of their collaboration. This split also coincided with Shallipopi launching his own independent label, Plutomania Records, further asserting his desire to take control of his career.

Through this courageous decision, Shallipopi is sending a powerful message to the industry: artists deserve respect, transparency, and fair treatment. His commitment to standing up for himself and his fellow creators is a much-needed reminder of the importance of integrity in the music business.
