Starlink To Increase Price Of Internet In Nigeria

According to Tribune Online, Nigeria was the first African country to receive Starlink's satellite-based internet service when it launched in January 2023.

In an email sent to subscribers on Friday, Starlink explained that the price increase is necessary to enhance its network infrastructure and maintain high-quality internet service across the country.

The new pricing is as follows: Standard (Residential) N75,000, Mobile – Regional (Roam Unlimited) N167,000, and Mobile – Global (Global Roam) N717,000.

“These changes reflect our commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to support and improve your experience with Starlink,” the company stated.

Subscribers who wish to discontinue the service were informed that they could cancel their subscription at any time.

In September, Starlink attempted a price hike that increased the monthly fee from N38,000 to N75,000, citing inflation as the reason. However, the Nigerian Communications Commission initially threatened sanctions for this unauthorized increase but later retracted the statement, causing confusion over regulatory approval.

Following public backlash, Starlink temporarily suspended the price hike and promised credits to affected customers while addressing these regulatory challenges.
