Sonic continues to dominate the box office. "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" maintained its top position on its second Friday, earning $12.6 million. The movie has already surpassed $100 million in North American sales within its first eight days. Paramount Pictures is planning a fourth installment, set for release in 2027.
"Mufasa: The Lion King" held the second spot with $12 million. This Disney musical drama, which cost $200 million to produce, is expected to earn $58 million over the holiday weekend.
The gothic horror "Nosferatu," released on Wednesday, secured third place with $7.25 million. This remake of the 1922 silent film features Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, and Lily-Rose Depp. The Post praised it as a "skin-crawling remake" with excellent casting.
"Wicked" dropped to fourth place, earning $6.83 million on its sixth Friday. "Moana 2" fell to fifth, bringing in $6.3 million. This family adventure has become one of the top 20 highest-grossing PG movies and the fourth highest-grossing movie domestically in 2024.
